Elliot's Expose

Blog response instructions:

• Use evidence from the novel to support your answer and include page numbers.
• When commenting to your peers, be respectful in your language and about their responses. It is okay to disagree, but do it in a polite manner.

When Elliot writes about his experience with the Jock Rots and sends it out over the KidNet, he includes the following quote in his letter."I think people ought to realize that stuff like this goes on every day…The rest of you are all part of it-because you let it go on and maybe you think it's funny, or you think it only happens to geeky outsiders and kids who are smaller or fatter or skinnier or don't have so many friends or so much money as you. So tell me-what happens when you don't have so many friends one day, or you don't have so much money, or something bad happens to you?" (91-92)
Blog Question:What is the message is he trying to get across to his classmates? (6pts)
Two Peer Responses (4 pts)

The message Elliot is trying to get across to his classmates is that anyone can get bullied. It's not a person's own fault if they're small or skinny or don't have a lot of friends, and one day you could become skinny or without friends, and you'll be picked on. People should not ignore the bullying going on, because the bully can easily turn from the outsider to you. Also, people should realise it's not as funny as it seems, and stop it. Bullies shoud care a bit more about how their victims might feel, and what can happen when it gets out of hand, like on page 56-59, when the Jock Rots drop Elliot off the bridge. It's not right to hurt people unnecessarily. The students that aren't with the crowd aren't people who deserve this kind of treatment; it's not punishable for being an outsider. So what Elliot is trying to say is that one day you might be with the crowd, the next day you're not and you could be a victim. Stop bullying and don't pretend it doesn't happen; care about other people's feelings and see the wrong in hurting people.

Blog: Role Reversal

Blog Question: After the Bully Lab was renamed, the Revealers, and the stories of the three Darkland students were released and well received by the student body, Elliot wanted to publish Russell’s narrative about Richie punching Russell in the face.
1) Why was Russell so opposed to the idea (pg. 110)? Explain. (4 pts)
2) What is happening to the relationship between Russell and Richie. (3 pts)
3) Two Peer Comments (4 pts each)

Blog Answer:

1. Russell didn't want to post his story about Richie punching him, because Richie had been acting differently, nicer. Russell probably thought they were more of friends now; he was allowed to ask questions, as he said on page 99; and publishing the story might ruin it all(he's probably a bit scared to get hurt, too). Also, I don't think he wanted everyone to know about his problems with Richie, since even if he sent it in anonymous, people could guess who he is.

2. Between Russell and Richie, it's going better now. Richie isn't bullying him badly now or anything, and Russell is allowed to ask him things. He also sort of stood up for Russell when Burke and Blanchette were threatening him (as on page 97), and Richie has gained a bit of respect for Russell, because he dared to talk back. They're becoming more of friends, and I think Richie would, say, protect Russell, because he's Richie's victim, and he wants Russell to learn to stand up for himself.

Me!

Hi!
My name is Eva, and I'm from Holland and England. I live in Bangladesh, which is a country somewhere in Asia that is very crowded and quite poor. I go to the American International School, Dhaka (AIS-D). My favourite subjects in school are Band, P.E, and Social Studies/Language Arts. I love music, it's my life! Some of the bands I listen to are Children of Bodom, Korn, Breaking Benjamin, 12 stones and Bullet for my Valentine. I also like reading horror, mystery and realistic books, though less than before. On weekends I like to hang around with my friends or go swimming at the Dutch club, and of course listen to music or read. Red and black are my favourite colours, and snakes my favourite animal. Hope you'll enjoy my blog!
